SDG 153 – Bach Cantatas vol.20 (19 Jul 2009)
"Almost a decade after their great Bach Pilgrimage of 2000, the
Monteverdi's Bach cantata series continues to be released on their own
label, and sustains standards that seems impossibly high, considering
the pressures of weekly travel and performance around Europe. This set
was made in Southwell and Naarden, and includes some great music:
soprano Miah Persson in the solo cantata BWV 84, ringingly clear if not
quite relaxed, and Stephan Loges a bold bass in BWV 126. Fine
performances all round, but the palm as ever has to go to Bach himself:
the amazing central fresco of BWV 18 is far more dramatic than most
operas of the time."
